3 More Leadership Habits to Unlearn Through Uncertainty
Yesterday, we examined three habits to unlearn in order to lead with greater steadiness and presence during uncertainty. Today, consider three more shifts that further expand your capacity.
Unlearn avoiding conflict; learn to sit with tension. Don’t rush to smooth over disagreement. Structure it. Ask each side to name what the other fears losing. Reflect the shared stakes you hear. Decide only what is ready to be decided and put the rest back on the agenda with a clear timeframe.
Unlearn being performative; learn to build deeper connections. Trade polish for presence. Slow your speech. Steady your breath. Distinguish what you know, what you don’t know, and what you’re committed to discovering with the team. Grounded honesty helps others settle.
Unlearn hidden assumptions; relearn how to lead. Question beliefs like certainty equals confidence or discomfort equals failure. Ask what you assume will happen if you pause or share tension. Test small changes and notice the impact. Capacity grows when you change how you think about leadership itself.
