Disruptive innovation doesn’t start with a breakthrough product—it starts with a mindset. Whether you’re designing software or writing cookbooks, certain behaviors can help you challenge the status quo and create real change. Here’s what to practice.

See the world through your customers’ eyes. Focus on what your audience actually needs. Use their language, shop where they shop, and test ideas in their environment. Make their experience your north star.

Let curiosity lead. Don’t accept “that’s just how it’s done.” Ask why. Dive deep into problems others overlook. Research obsessively and follow every thread until you find clarity. Curiosity turns confusion into insight.

Don’t go it alone. The best ideas come from collaboration. Seek diverse perspectives, work with people outside your field, and intentionally collide ideas. Innovation happens at these intersections.

Experiment, learn, repeat. Try things without needing them to succeed the first time. Treat every attempt as a data point. Whether it’s baking bread or launching a new product, iteration beats perfection.

Stay persistent. Rejection and setbacks are part of the process. Rework, rethink, and reroute if needed—but don’t stop. Every “no” is just one step closer to “yes.”
