Is your team aligned around what success looks like in the coming year? Early in the year is a prime opportunity to rally your team around a shared vision. Here’s how to lead that conversation.

First, ask each team member how they envision team success, either through interviews or a survey. Then group their individual responses into broad themes, such as revenue growth, profitability, audience expansion, innovation, and culture.

Then meet as a group. When you come together, start by level setting, ensuring that everyone is up to date on key data. It’s important that the team is clear on the baseline metrics you’ll use to collectively measure success.

Next, review the team’s individual responses together. Where do people’s answers overlap? Where do their priorities diverge? This will inevitably lead to an engaging, inclusive discussion.

Finally, come together to establish what winning looks like by establishing a list of priorities and target metrics. Real-time polling can be a highly effective tool to quickly and anonymously capture the team’s opinions and preferences.
